How to Build Your Own 2D Animation Studio

Flow Schema making 2D Animated Films

Making 2D Animation based on its complexity is divided into two kinds, namely a short duration animation display of a maximum of one minute, and the second is a 2D animated film.

Short duration animation shows are enough for teams of 1 or 2 people. Whereas 2D animation movies require a lot of teams, considering the number of scenes needed.

Well here we discuss specifically about making 2D animated films because for 2D animation shows a short set-up can be fun and flexible. while for 2D film Set Up animation is quite complicated, namely from the process of character design scenarios, key animation, inbetweening, tracing, coloring, compositing to editing.

1. Scenarios
The screenplay is done by a story writer, starting from a symopsis and developed into a complete story.

2. Character Design
Synopsis is handed over to a character designer. Here characters are created based on the personalities of each character in the story.

3. Storyboard
From the character and scenario design, a storyboard artist starts drawing scenes in the scenario and divides them into several scenes, where one picture is a scene.

4. Key animation
Some key animators have strong sketch skills that do sketches of their respective scenes. For example, from the scene of people sitting, standing, drinking until walking, by giving an explanation of its duration.

5. Inbetweening
The inbetween section is usually 10 people who have drawing skills to make sketches of the animated transition from the key frame earlier to become a sketch of moving sheets of animation according to the specified duration. one second is usually 25 frames.

6. Tracing
The tracing section is usually 10 people, who are in charge of smoothing the rough inbetween sketches into neat contour drawings.

7. Coloring
The Coloring Section (10 people) is tasked with coloring the tracing image so that it becomes the final artwork that is ready to be animated. No need to skill enough not to be color blind.

8. Background
The Background section requires one or two people who have the skill to paint the scenery for each scene.

9. Compositing
The compositing section is a person who has the expertise to operate animation software to compost images of characters that have been colored with the background for each scene.

10, editing and dubbing
Editing animated video based on a story while simultaneously integrating with a dubber sound.
